“Don’t design for the sake of creating but to solve problems.”

As a product designer, the founder of THINKTHING STUDIO, Jason Li, says what he creates are more art pieces than products. For instance, he had designed a table lamp that can be positioned at various angles. His intention was to make a better medium of light, rather than just making a lamp. This relates to his design philosophy. “Don’t design for the sake of creating but to solve problems,” said Jason.

The “problems” he mentioned can be something normal in our daily lives, but Jason can always identify the space for betterment. MagSafer 2.0 was inspired by his cooking experience – if there is a magnetic power bank with which allows input and output charging at once, one can use the mobile in the kitchen or anywhere else conveniently and wirelessly.

Inspired by the Nature
There seem to be endless ideas in Jason’s mind, but he never intentionally looks for inspirations. The inspiration of his design comes from the creator of the world. For example, the sizes of most human hands are more or less the same, thus mobile phones seldom increase in width. Based on this piece of information, Jason could identify the suitable size and width for a charging device, “Designers should observe and go with the order of the nature, rather than follow trends,” Jason believes.
