“Every design can consider the fusion of old and new, and try to be flexible.”

Jessica Lau and Walter Kong, the founders of Blind by JW, have always cooperated closely. While Jessica paints meaningful images with watercolors, Walter digitalizes them on colorful fashion pieces.

So far, they have covered a wide range of design themes, and QipaoEasy - Qipao Waistcoat is where the East meets the West. Embroidery, stand-up collar, row of buttons... The features of traditional Qipao are embedded into a new style of female clothing, which can be matched with different fashion styles.

Hong Kong's Unique Advantages
As a modern city with Chinese cultural background, Walter regards the mix of culture as an advantage of Hong Kong, and a direction for local designers to explore, “Every design can consider the fusion of old and new, and try to be flexible,” said Walter. Jessica also agrees that many Hong Kong designers have their own recognizable styles. If traditional elements are added, the designs will become even more impressive. At the same time, close cooperation with other sectors is beneficial, “Designers do not work alone. We are inseparable from suppliers, media, retailers, etc. Let us connect to exert greater power,” Jessica believes.

Founders and Directors, Blind by JW

BLIND BY JW, founded in 2012 by Hong Kong design duo Jessica Lau and Walter Kong, the womenswear and accessories label is celebrated for its artistic patterns and hand-drawn prints. Its designs bridge Eastern and Western influences, and feature modern motifs and surprising silhouettes to create wearable works of art.

Creating directly onto canvas, designer Jessica Lau uses watercolours to bring unique images to life. From fantasy fiction to fairy tales, each print is a journey of cultural exploration and storytelling. Jessica’s creations are then digitized by Walter and printed on to colourful pieces that strike a balance between eccentricity and elegance.
