Questions about Smart Design Global

• What’s the difference between the corporate group and conceptual group?

  • The Corporate Group is given to mass-produced designs already on the market , while the Conceptual Group is for conceptual designs that have yet to be produced, non-commissioned conceptual design projects, and unimplemented conceptual design proposals.

• Can I enter products that are not yet in mass production?

  • Corporate Group : All entries/products should be an original design and launched in the market for not more than two years from date of application deadline (launched since 10 March 2024)

• Is there a limit on the number of entries that can be submitted to Smart Design Global?

  • Corporate Group:  Each product is limited to one category and one application. Repeated submissions under other categories will be deemed invalid.
    ※Corporate Group: Each company can submit up to three entries for each category, so each company can submit up to 12 entries in total (3 categories x 4 sub-categories).
     
    Conceptual Group : Each independent designer/student can submit up to three entries, regardless of category.

• What qualifications must be met to enter Smart Design Global?

  • Corporate Group : Company with Hong Kong Business Registration. Original design created by either in-house or outsource designers. Product entries must be completed products, and not parts thereof
    ※ All entries/products should be an original design and launched in the market for not more than two years from date of application deadline (launched since 13 March 2024)
     
    Conceptual Group : Hong Kong Citizen with HKID; Full time student in Hong Kong studying in local educational institutes or Hong Kong citizens studying overseas / part-time student design programs.
     
    ※  All entries must be original design created by individual or group
     
    ※  Same product/design cannot be enrolled to both individual Division and Corporate Group at the same time
     
    ※  Each product is limited to one category and one application. Repeated submissions under other categories will be deemed invalid.

Questions about Online Registration and Entry Applications

• I registered for an account last year. Can I change my 「 ID code 」 for this year?

  • No. Please register for a new account if you wish to use a different company name.

• The registration system has fields the entry in both Chinese and English. Can I only fill in the Chi?

  • The jury for the Smart Design Global is composed of renowned domestic and international design experts. As winning entries may be exhibited abroad, it is very important to include properly written English language introductions. Applicants must therefore fill out both fields.

• Why the registration system requires two entry descriptions in both part 1 and 2?

  • Part 1 descriptions are used as references for the judging process. Part 2 descriptions are used by the Smart Design Global for media exposure and publicity purposes.

• Can I upload fewer than the required number of entry photos?

  • Yes, but you must upload at least one photo. We recommend that you upload photos that fully show the external appearance and features of the entry.

• Is there a file size limit on entry photo uploads to the registration system?

  • The file types are limited to JPG, JPEG, and PNG, photo resolution should be 200 dpi or above, each 2MB~5MB, photo size should be around 21 x 29.7 cm. Photos should not contain descriptive text or company logo watermarks, nor should any single photo consist of a photo collage.

• My entry incorporates different designs. Do I enter them separately or as a whole?

  • If you want to emphasize your entry’s overall visual aesthetic, you can enter the whole as one entry. If you want to emphasize a unique exterior design or features of the individual designs, you can enter them separately. Note that you will need to pay a separate registration fee for each entry.

• I entered my compilation of designs in the Product Design Category. What should I put down as the va

  • You may put down the overall value/ price of your entry.

• What is the registration process for the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards? How do I verify that I have

  • 1. Register online for a Hong Kong Smart Design Awards account and activate the account (click on the SMS and mail box you receive).Then proceed with the following steps:
    2. Step 1: Select [My Project] > Modify item. Fill out and save the entry information. Read the terms and conditions and our policy on the use of personal information, and check the box to indicate your acceptance.
    3. Step 2: Select [My Account] > My Profile.  Fill out the basic information of the applying company. Then, Select > Business & Promotion Information .  Fill out the promotion information of the applying company.
    4. Step 3: Pay the registration fee. Note that you may only make changes to entry information to the registration deadline.
    5. The registration process is only complete if the applicant completes the payment of the registration fee within the designated time period. Payment status can be verified in the registration system.

• What is 「 SDA ID code 」&「password」?

  • 「 SDA ID code 」is the code of the participating company, which is bundled with the company's registered name and company email and cannot be changed.

• I did not receive an HKSDA email and SMS after registration. What should I do?

  • Please contact us at hksda@exporters.org.hk and provide us with e-mail address, company name, and telephone number.

• I registered for an account last year. Can I still use my 「SDA ID code 」&「password」 to log in and apply for SDG 2026

  • Yes, you can just login the system with your old HKSDA account.

Questions about Registration Fees

• What are the payment methods for the registration fee?

  • Payment of the registration fee may be made using a paypal (Visa/MasterCard/JCB), DBS ATM only, Direct Deposit via bank or internet.  Please note that entrants shall bear the cost of remittance fees and other additional fees and are required to pay in full [100%TT (telegraphic transfer)].

• Will I receive an invoice for the registration fee?

  • E-invoices will be issued in accordance with the company information provided during the registration process. The company can download it during the registration process.

• What is the difference between the Early bird price and general price?

  • Early bird price: HKD$600 per product group. 
    Note that you may only make changes to entry products group prior to the early bird registration deadline. The early bird price of the registration process is only complete if the applicant completes the selection of the product group within the designated time period.

Questions about the Selection Process and Awards

• Does applying for additional certificates or trophy incur additional fees?

  • Certificates is presented as explained above. For additional certificates or trophy, Please contact us at hksda@exporters.org.hk and provide us with e-mail address, company name, and telephone number.

• What types of privileges do Hong Kong Smart Design Awards winning entries enjoy?

  • Hong Kong Smart Design Awards winning entries are granted the right to join and gain global media exposure through the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards roving exhibition and online platforms.

• Will there be an awards ceremony for the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards?

  • Yes, the awards ceremony is scheduled to be in May of the award year.

• Will the winning entries receive certificates? Do these certificates incur additional costs?

  • All Hong Kong Smart Design Awards winning entries will be presented with certificates. There are no additional costs.

• Do I need to deliver the physical entry materials to the selection venue?

  • Physical entries are not required during Preliminary Selection. You will only need to deliver the physical entry materials to the indicated selection venue/ designated collection site within a week if you are notified  (Notification will be in the registration system and via email in Early – Mid March 2024)  that your entry has progressed to Final Selection.

• My physical entry is too large to deliver to the selection venue. What should I do?

  • If your physical entry is too large to deliver to the selection venue, please upload a short video (up to 90 seconds) introducing your entry and provide a link during the registration process. You will also need to inform the Hong Kong Smart design Awards team in advance regarding your reason for not delivering the physical entry for the selection process. If the organizer grants approval, then the entry’s introductory video can be used to represent the entry during Final Selection.

• Will the physical entries submitted for Final Selection be returned once the selection process is co

  • Once Final Selection is completed, the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards team will keep all the participating entries until after the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards Ceremony . After that, the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards team will notify participants of the return of their entries. Participants are responsible for all entry transport and transport-related expenses (e.g., customs duties).

• Will the physical entries submitted for Final Selection be returned once the product is awarded?

  • Awarded products will not be returned to entrants after submission. The award organizer may use them for exhibition and promotional purposes.
