Johnny Mui is the Vice President of Merchandise at Toys“R”Us Asia, where he oversees the end-to-end merchandise function across eight key markets—Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Brunei. With 20 years of experience in retail buying, category strategy, and product innovation, Johnny drives the strategic direction of the company’s toys, collectibles, and lifestyle categories, ensuring the product offering remains relevant, differentiated, and exciting for families and kidults alike.
 
A visionary leader, Johnny has been instrumental in the evolution of Playpop, Toys“R”Us Asia’s private label brand. Under his guidance, Playpop has transformed from a toy-focused range into a comprehensive lifestyle assortment, offering products for everyday play, home decor, gifting, and seasonal occasions. This transformation has made Playpop a cornerstone of the Toys“R”Us portfolio, delivering strong commercial results and delighting customers across Asia.
 
Since joining Toys“R”Us Asia in 2006 as a Sales & Merchandising Specialist, Johnny has held progressively senior roles across merchandise, marketing, and supply chain. These roles have equipped him with a holistic understanding of the retail business and a unique ability to align cross-functional priorities. As Regional General Manager – Merchandise & Strategy, Johnny led transformation programs that modernized assortment planning, introduced data-driven decision-making, and optimized product lifecycle management. His leadership has strengthened supplier partnerships, enhanced operational efficiency, and fostered collaboration across markets.
 
Johnny’s career is defined by a commitment to innovation and customer-centric growth. He has consistently championed initiatives to identify emerging trends, curate compelling assortments, and build exclusive partnerships that set Toys“R”Us apart in the retail landscape. Known for his collaborative leadership style and commercial acumen, Johnny is passionate about developing agile, high-performing teams and cultivating a culture of creativity and excellence.
 
Johnny holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of British Columbia. Based in Hong Kong, he continues to lead Toys“R”Us Asia’s merchandise innovation with a future-focused mindset, ensuring every product on the shelf brings joy to customers of all ages.
