Humanized Designs Bring Changes
Imaginative, challenging the tradition…are these your impressions of designers? In the eyes of Gut Yau, being innovative does not mean subverting, "Compared with making the product a very special one, I focus much more on humanization to bring convenience to users through some changes."

Identify the Target Users
Taking the UCmask as an example. The reusable mask enables clear visualization of the face. Before realizing the design idea, Gut asked people around her: If there is a mask that can show the face, would you use it? Most are a bit reluctant, but not the service industry, “Companies want their staff to smile, as a friendly gesture and interaction with customers.", Gut discovers. Her friends from the education sector also share that the traditional masks hinder them from recognizing the students, and the students cannot learn to articulate without seeing the mouth of the teachers.

UCmask can be put to some good use, but Gut does not expect to reach heaven at a single bound, “It will not be recognized by the whole world all at once. Let the target customers enjoy it first, and other people will accept it more easily in the future”, said Gut. Finding the right place for the product is her first step towards changes.
